Wagner VII projection is modified based on the Hammer projection. "The poles correspond to the 65th parallels on the Hammer [projection], and meridians are repositioned" (Snyder and Voxland, 1989). Distortion is prevalent in polar areas.

Construction

Modified azimuthal

Property

Equal-area

Meridians

Central meridian is straight and half the Equator’s length. Other meridians are unequally spaced curves. They are concave toward the central meridian.

Parallels

Equator is straight; other parallels are curved. Other parallels are unequally spaced curves, which are concave toward the closest pole.

Graticule spacing

See Meridians and Parallels. Poles are curved lines. Symmetry exists about the central meridian or the Equator.

Linear scale

Scale decreases along the central meridian and the Equator relative to distance from the center of the Wagner VII projection.

Uses

World maps.
