Each meridian of Wagner IV Projection is less than half an ellipse, and the projection has distortion primarily in the polar regions.

Construction

Pseudocylinder

Property

Equal-area

Meridians

Central meridian is a straight line one half as long as the Equator. Other meridians are portions of ellipses that are equally spaced. They are concave towards the central meridian. Meridians at 103° 55’ E and W of the central meridian are circular arcs.

Parallels

Parallels are unequally spaced. Parallels have the widest space between them at the Equator, and are perpendicular to the central meridian.

Graticule spacing

See Meridians and Parallels. Poles are lines one half as long as the Equator. Symmetry exists around the central meridian or the Equator.

Linear scale

Scale is accurate along latitudes 42° 59’ N and S. Scale is constant along any specific latitude as well as the latitude of opposite sign.
